My step sister and I decided to take an impromptu visit to the christmas markets in Maastricht. Maastricht is the oldest city in the Netherlands, and it is packed with small town charm. The town square was set up with shops selling sausages, poffertjes, fries, and of course waffles. They had a giant ferris wheel, a small ice rink and a carousel, it was actually the sweetest thing ever. We went for high tea, nibbled on snacks at the market, and explored the city. I always wish that people weren’t so narrow-minded about visiting the Netherlands. Tourists always seem to zone in on Amsterdam, and rarely make anytime to venture outside of it. The Netherlands is so beautiful though, and it is filled with little villages and towns that will make your heart skip a beat. The trains go everywhere, so it is very easy to get around. I just hope that gradually, people will realize that their vacation to the Netherlands should’t stop in Amsterdam!
